Public Space

A figure-ground diagram illustrates the relationship between built and open space in precincts. Open spaces such as streets, parks, natural features and plazas are represented by white, while  black indicates buildings.

Nolli's map is utilized as a method to identify different types of public realm in students’ precincts.The map is then used to also analyze the degree of ‘public-ness’ basis access restrictions pertaining to gender, time, age and cost.

The portfolio gives an overview of the precinct in Goregaon, Mumbai and urban planning aspects are considered for understanding the fabric of the precinct. The portfolio encompasses a brief of the city and it focuses on the overall planning of the precinct. It explains the growth pattern, evolution, the key determinants that led to the urban transformation, built use, and land development of the precinct. It explores an interesting contrast between built & unbuilt neighborhoods and explains how well the contrasting neighborhoods are functioning together and defining the character of the precinct.
